Impact Statement Stronger Communities. A Brighter Future. A Better Kansas City.
Needs Statement
Our greatest needs are as follows:
1. $180,000 to hire a licensed social worker for the next three years to lead our program to End Student Homelessness in the Center School District. This social worker will work directly with families and community agencies to remove barriers that are preventing families from obtaining stability through sustainable and dignified housing.  (
2. $100,000 to help remove barriers to homelessness. Many homeless families face hundreds and thousands of dollars in debt and evictions that keep them from finding a new home. These funds will allow us to give them a leg up in moving towards sustainable and dignified housing. (
3. $194,000 to renovate and expand the size of our current food pantry at Evangel Church. This expansion will nearly double the square footage of the pantry which will allow for space to safely store fresh produce, and fresh and frozen meat.

Description Serve the World serves as the backbone organization of a collective impact called, "Impact Center Schools" that works together to end homelessness in the Center School District. By bringing together social service agencies, other non-profits, the faith-based community, and individuals this collective impact works to remove barriers that families face that keep them from keeping or obtaining dignified, sustainable, and affordable housing. Families work with a case manager to navigate the complexities of the social service arena. The case manager also connects families with professionals to help them build skills around managing a household budget, working with a landlord, navigating healthcare, and building job skills. Once families have barriers removed, we work with them to find a home and pay their first month's rent and deposit.

Short-Term Success The short-term goal is to serve 50 families each school year. Each family will meet with local social service agencies to remove barriers to having a home of their own. Of the 50 families served a year we aim for at least half to graduate the program and be housed.
Long-Term Success Each family that we serve is qualified by school social workers under the Federal McKinney-Vento program. These families meet very specific conditions to be considered homeless. There are currently 90+ families in the Center School District that qualify under McKinney-Vento with an additional 200+/- at risk. The long term goal is that there will be zero homeless families in the Center School District and all of the cases managed by the Collective Impact are preventing families from entering homelessness.
Program Success Monitored By Success is determined by the number of families that are moving out of homelessness and into dignified, sustainable, and affordable housing.
Examples of Program Success While we are still in the early phases of this program, we are replicating the Impact KCK model based in Wyandotte County Missouri. Through this same model, 700+ families have been housed in the last 3 years with 95% of those families staying housed a year later.
