CEO/Executive Director/Board Chair Statement
By the year 2020 an estimated one-third of all public US high schools will be without any interscholastic sports programs, and already, 65% are pay to play. Did you know that student-athletes have an 11% higher graduation rate, are 50% less absent, and are 4X more likely to get college degrees (U.S. Dept. of Education)? An estimated $3.5 Billion were cut from school sports budgets nationwide in just two years. These budget cuts take away the opportunities for many of the 36 Million American children to participate in any extracurricular activities, especially youth in low income families and high risk situations. We are here to change the game!
Kansas City Shock Athletics Association is a veteran founded, volunteer run, educational 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for sports-based youth development, dedicated to shaping college prospects & well-rounded young adults through sports! KC Shock is not your typical sports team; our organization focuses on not only athletics but education, life skills, volunteerism, college preparation, and career planning. We use the skills our youth acquire in sports, then we translate them into skills they can use throughout life.
