Mission Statement We harness the power of immersive, informal education to help people acquire understanding, leading to informed action via data literacy, thinking skills, personal agency and civic empowerment.
Background Statement ContemPlace is a non-profit that leverages the principles and methods of interpretive exhibition design to connect people with ideas and information.  We envision that every individual and any community can become agents of their own futures by helping them learn to use abundant data and information to drive inquiry, discourse and critical thinking.
Impact Statement
Today, data and information can reveal new answers to old problems, but a gap in data-literacy skills prevails across all segments of society, bot in the public and business spheres.   We conceptualize, design and implement transformation learning experiences to help close this gap.  Building on a long history of developing immersive exhibits and strategies that connect with diverse audiences, ContemPlace creates informal learning experiences designed to be place based, digital or hybrids of both.  Our designs inspire and engage audiences, and can help educational and community institutions succeed as pillars of communities.
  •  ContemPlace and USA250 conducted a planning session in conjunction  with the American Association of State and Local History annual meeting held in Kansas City, September 2018.  Participants included area executives from several business segments, convention and visitor's bureau, executives from the nonprofit and educational sectors.  Considered as a larger experience that spans a number of years, the charge is to create something memorable that will be educational and impactful. The 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America is rapidly approaching: this is a reare opportunity to look ahead to frame our aspirations for the next 250 years.
  •  ContemPlace  convened two "think Sessions" with marketing and advertising professionals.  These sessions included  marketing and advertising executives from across state lines interested in focusing on building anticipation for USA250 for young audiences.  Kansas City influences were considered as examples of successful community endeavors that engaged the public and promoted civic engagement as a result
  •  ContemPlace will continue to collaborate on USA 250 activities in 2019 and is hopeful to keep Kansas City visible nationally as activities are created and planned for future celebration of the 2026: The 250th anniversary of the United States.
  • ContemPlace continues to develop and promote projects aimed to educate our communities and the public on the value of the census and will offer exhibits designed to educate the young as well as inform all age levels.  Materials include teaching aides and library exhibits that can be transported to any facility regardless of location.
Needs Statement
ContemPlace Initiatives and Projects includes,  but is not limited to, the following:
ContemPlace is working with a number of groups who are planning to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a celebration of who we are and where we've come from, while looking ahead to future aspirations and how we might achieve civiv and cultural goals.  We are exploring how we can help Americans feel connected to our nation and actively participate in its future, not only by acknowledging achievements that have been made but by encouraging  them to overcome current challenges.
Financial support is needed for events and activities planned to engage the public including the development and distribution of educational materials designed for students to promote census education at the individual level and in the community.
ContemPlace has designed the Interactive Healing Environment to reveal the interconnection of health to heal the whole person.  The Interactive Healing Environment is a patented system that leverages technology with interpretive and caregiving experience, optimizing the healing benefits of "high tech/high touch" environments in clinical settings and in the home environment.
Financial support and partner relationships are needed to continue development, and beta test this technology and implement to improve patient care outcomes and assist the aging populations in living environments of their choice.
