Mission Statement
Fighting ovarian cancer through awareness, education, research and support.
Background Statement
Vicki Welsh was an outgoing, compassionate woman, who loved nature, animals, outdoor activities, traveling, and art. She began having symptoms in 2001, and was finally diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer in July 2002. Vicki lost her battle with ovarian cancer in January 2006 at the age of 52.

The Vicki Welsh Ovarian Cancer Fund was established in Vicki’s memory in 2006 to fight ovarian cancer in the Kansas City metro by supporting research and promoting greater awareness of the disease and its symptoms.
Impact Statement
Each year, the Vicki Welsh Ovarian Cancer Fund brings women together from all across the metro and from all walks of life to learn more about this deadly disease, honor those who have passed, and support on-going research. The annual Whisper Walk/Run is the largest of these events, and over 1,000 walkers/runners raised nearly $64,000 this past September. In addition, during the past year
  • Ten billboards sponsored in the KC metro region provided symptoms awareness information.
  • More than 40 Public Service announcements aired in September, November and December 2016 highlighting the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer.
  • Volunteers attended numerous community events and distributed educational items.
  • Symptom awareness advertising was featured in HerLife magazine.
We look forward to similar successful initiatives in 2018.
Needs Statement
The Vicki Welsh Ovarian Cancer Fund relies heavily on volunteer time and community support to maintain its research fundraising and cancer awareness programs. Our most pressing needs include: volunteers for community events, volunteers to assist with office and operations, funding that will allow us to increase area awareness and PSA projects, unrestricted funding that would enable us to hire a paid Director.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Chair Statement The Vicki Welsh Ovarian Cancer Fund has accomplished so much since Vicki’s passing in 2006. We are proud of our efforts that have not only created avenues for increasing awareness and education, but also prioritized research support that will help put a stop to this deadly disease. I am a two-time breast cancer survivor myself, so it is important to me to help find a cure for this terrible disease called “CANCER.” I was elated when David Welsh, founder of the Vicki Welsh Ovarian Cancer Fund and former co-worker, approached me to chair the Whisper Walk and later serve as President of the Board. While we’ve come a long way, we have a long way to go. We need our community’s continued support of time, effort, and funding to end this terrible disease in our lifetime.
