Mission Statement To help and serve through prayer, publishing, and community.
Background Statement
Unity was founded in 1889 in Kansas City, Missouri, by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore as a healing ministry based on the power of prayer and the power of our thoughts to create our own reality. After Mrs. Fillmore’s remarkable healing using prayer and affirmations, many friends became interested in how she accomplished this healing. As a result of this interest, Unity grew from small prayer circles in living rooms to the worldwide movement it is today. Unity is an open-minded, accepting spiritual community that honors all paths to God. Our desire is to help and serve through prayer, publishing, and community by providing services such as 24/7 prayer support through our Silent Unity Prayer Ministry, daily inspiration and guidance from Daily Word magazine, spiritual growth and insight from Unity Magazine and a platform for spiritual and New Thought discussions through Unity Online Radio.
Impact Statement
  • Outreach & Engagement – In line with our guiding principle, to “help and serve more people” Unity established an Outreach & Engagement department to provide spiritual support materials to people going through some of the most challenging times in their lives. Through Unity churches in communities across the country, we are partnering with regional organizations, such as American Cancer Society and the Tigerlily Foundation, and providing them with spiritually comforting materials to support those they serve.
  • Silent Unity - Silent Unity (800-NOW-PRAY) answers over 3,000 calls per day from people around the country needing prayer support, providing positive affirmative prayer, confidentially and at no charge, regardless of religious beliefs. In order to “pray with all who ask for prayer” we are establishing remote based prayer partners who answer the calls from their home or local church.
  • Communications and Social Media - Unity expanded its visibility significantly through social media, prayer and Daily Word apps, and a website redesign.
2018-19 Goals:
  • Launch the Vision 2020 Capital Campaign that will allow us to preserve and propel the physical and natural infrastructure of Unity into the future and also provide the means to incorporate technology to help and serve more people in every generation.
  • Identify and focus on another group in need to receive our spiritually comforting materials through our Outreach & Engagement department.
  • Expand Silent Unity’s remote prayer partner program.
  • Partner with like-minded organizations to use our extensive building and ground space and create an earned income stream to support Unity’s core ministries.
  • Grow endowment funds to provide income for Silent Unity and campus renovations.
  • Partner with influencers in the mind, body, spirit world to bring more people instantly to the Unity message through Unity Online Radio. Propel Unity Online Radio into the future as the premier internet radio station for spiritual seekers around the world.
Needs Statement
  • Each year, hundreds of visitors come to our 1,500 acre campus for retreats, tours, meals, golf, photographs, weddings, and other special meetings or events. Many of the buildings on campus are in serious need of renovation, including the Unity Clubhouse built in the 1920s, and the Activities Center which is currently home to the Unity Village Chapel.
  • Another very critical need at this time is to repair the Charles Fillmore Lake Dam. This 100-year old iconic dam houses and protects the Water Treatment Plant and Water Supply for Unity Village. Repairs are needed to fix the columns supporting the dam, the crumbling roadway, and other weather-exposed sections.Without attention, the dam will become unusable, threatening the lake and the Unity water supply.
  • Unity cannot accommodate all those who want to stay on campus while attending retreats and special events. Often the hotel does not have enough space to meet requests, limiting our capability to serve those who want to stay at Unity Village. Unity would like to develop new housing, in the form of a tiny homes village, to complement the hotel space and expand our on-campus capacity. The project would not only expand our accommodations but offer unique nature-based options for those wishing to stay on campus.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Chair Statement
As Chair of the Board of Directors for Unity World Headquarters (UWH), I’m pleased and honored to provide a statement about Unity and my passion for their incredible work to help and serve more people across the country.
Shortly after I began attending a Unity Church, my world turned upside down. Unity provided a community for support, teachings to build a foundation, and a spiritual discipline that allowed to me to live a bigger dream. I believe in giving back, yes, through financial donations, but also by volunteering and service. I have served on several boards in my local community and on Unity boards in Kansas City for 18 years. I am always enriched far beyond the service I give. I believe I serve the world by serving Unity and my community.
Although UWH faces many of the same challenges as other not-for-profit organizations, we believe that by helping and serving more people and the overall greater good, we will inspire others to become financial partners in our vital work. For example, in 2017 Unity created an Outreach program to help and support people impacted by cancer on a global scale. Our initial pilot put a packet of healing materials, including Never Alone: Facing Cancer with Faith, in the hands of over 1500 individuals in need of spiritual support. In June, we took the program nationwide. The recipients of these packets not only received powerful spiritual messages to support them during a difficult time, but they were also introduced to our core ministries: Silent Unity, our 24/7 prayer ministry that serves some 2 million people each year, and Daily Word, a daily positive spiritual reading.
Additionally, with new leadership in place, we’ve begun to identify potential like-mind partners who can help and serve their own populations using some of the 1500 acres and buildings we have available at Unity Village. This will not only expand our reach to help others, but will also create an earned income stream to help support Silent Unity and Daily Word.
Silent Unity is a worldwide prayer ministry in operation since 1907. Our trained prayer associates pray by telephone with callers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Including requests by mail, over the internet, and through our mobile U-Pray app, more than 3.7 million are served annually by our method of affirmative, empowering prayer inclusive of all faith traditions.

Short-Term Success Silent Unity’s approach to affirmative, empowering prayer is for those with whom we pray to experience immediate relief, comfort, and assurance, followed by a fresh sense of their capacity to navigate the changes and challenges of life confidently.
Long-Term Success
Silent Unity desires for everyone seeking prayer support to have immediate access to a well-trained, supportive, empowering person to pray with them. Silent Unity desires to have sufficient staff and technology to respond swiftly and directly to every request. Silent Unity desires that those with whom we pray build upon a consciousness of ever-present spiritual capacity within them to respond in every circumstance with spiritual maturity.
Program Success Monitored By Monthly reports calculate the number of calls and requests that Silent Unity receives for prayer support. These figures are included in our monthly management and financial reports to assist in planning for future growth. With the introduction of newer technology, we will also watch trends for growth and additional support necessary for our constituents.
Examples of Program Success

"I called and the one who prayed with me gave me such peace. I felt God was in control. I thank you so much for your prayer team who is always there in our time of need reminding us God is with us and hears our prayers."

"On December 27, 2017 I was feeling alone, lost, etc. I called several prayer ministries that were either closed or I felt they were just "going through the motions." Unity was my last attempt to reach out and I was lovingly received by a kind, empathetic gentleman who left me grateful and at peace!"
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the help I received as a result of a call to your prayer line. The prayer partner and I affirmed health and restoration for an injury that had left me in chronic pain for several months and was slowly rendering me unable to walk. Praise God! By that night I was feeling relief, by the next day I was walking normally and by the third day I resumed exercising. I'm happy to say I continue to improve and remain pain free."
The mission of Daily Word is to provide a voice of positivity to help transform and empower lives—meeting readers wherever they are on their spiritual journey. Through empowering affirmations and inspirational messages, readers are encouraged to focus on the presence and power of God within. In recognizing the divine light within, we effortlessly share positivity, inspiration, and joy.
What we think and how we think is responsible for our outlook on life and determines our health, happiness, and continued spiritual growth. It is not enough to be told that we need to think correctly in order to meet life successfully. We need to know how to think positively, how to change our patterns of thought in order to tap into the creative power within—the birthright of every human being.

Please thank the editor for continuing to publish such a wonderful Unity publication."
Unity has established a nationwide Outreach program whose sole purpose it to deliver materials of spiritual support to cancer centers, addiction centers, abuse homes, shelters and various nonprofits. Through this vital program, people who are experiencing a life-changing journey will also be introduced to Daily Word, our Silent Unity Prayer Ministry and local Unity spiritual communities. Our current focus is directed specifically towards the spiritual support of caregivers, as well as ways that family and friends can assist the caregivers in their lives.
Category Religion, General/Other Christianity
Population Served General/Unspecified
Short-Term Success The outreach pilot launched on March 4, 2017 with the distribution of 1,500 packets to 18 spiritual communities throughout the United States. Each spiritual community distributed the packets to six to ten cancer centers, hospitals and nonprofits in their area. A much wider roll-out took place in June 2017 with close to 100 spiritual communities distributing 7,500 packets to as many individuals impacted by cancer as possible.
Long-Term Success
The ultimate goal of our Outreach program is to deliver hope, inspiration and a helping hand to those who most need it by supporting chaplains, ministers, social workers – and in turn those marginalized by society, in pain or experiencing health challenges. By being proactive with our message and our ministries the potential for this outreach to help others is unlimited.
Program Success Monitored By Program success will be monitored by an Outreach pilot feedback form created specifically for the purpose of collecting data and information regarding the program. Each spiritual community has been tasked with gathering feedback, data and suggestions for future support needs.
Examples of Program Success
The focal point of our current outreach packet is our new booklet Spiritual Support for Caregivers and Those Who Love Them. Distribution of this inspiring booklet has just begun and we are already receiving positive feedback. Unity East of Atlanta wrote us to say "The congregation was excited about the booklet and we only have a few left. So, if you could send more, we would love it. I think there are a lot more people who are care-givers than we initially thought. Thank you so much!"

Unity publications share positive spiritual principles that comfort, encourage, and support people in every aspect of their lives. The Unity teachings help people realize the peace, strength, wholeness, and abundance they already possess. Message of Hope provides Unity literature in English and Spanish to people in correctional institutions, long-term care facilities, hospices, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, medical offices and clinics, mental health centers, and the military.
Message of Hope is especially blessed to share and lend free material in Braille, audio, and digital formats to the blind and visually impaired. This includes subscriptions to Unity’s flagship publication, Daily Word; a Braille calendar; letters of prayer support; and inspirational books and booklets.

Short-Term Success Short-term success can be defined through the number of individuals that are reached through the free Message of Hope program, and by the positive feedback we receive from those who have been helped by our literature.
Long-Term Success Message of Hope is a program that is operated only through donations we receive from generous individuals. Our vision for the long-term success of this program includes an endowment fund that would support its work indefinitely. The objective of Message of Hope is to provide ongoing services to individuals within various institutions who are in need of comfort and encouragement. It provides for the distribution of these materials to individuals in hospitals, nursing homes, correctional institutions, the military, etc. who lack the resources or ability to obtain the spiritual support they seek. Message of Hope has the further objective of offering these same materials, in Braille, audio, and digital formats to blind and visually impaired individuals, in or out of care settings.
