Mission Statement To help and serve through prayer, publishing, and community.
Background Statement
Unity was founded in 1889 in Kansas City, Missouri, by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore as a healing ministry based on the power of prayer and the power of our thoughts to create our own reality. After Mrs. Fillmore’s remarkable healing using prayer and affirmations, many friends became interested in how she accomplished this healing. As a result of this interest, Unity grew from small prayer circles in living rooms to the worldwide movement it is today. Unity is an open-minded, accepting spiritual community that honors all paths to God. Our desire is to help and serve through prayer, publishing, and community by providing services such as 24/7 prayer support through our Silent Unity Prayer Ministry, daily inspiration and guidance from Daily Word magazine, spiritual growth and insight from Unity Magazine and a platform for spiritual and New Thought discussions through Unity Online Radio.
Impact Statement
Outreach and Engagement – In line with our guiding principle, to “help and serve more people” Unity established an Outreach and Engagement department to provide spiritual support materials to people going through some of the most challenging times in their lives. Through Unity churches in communities across the country, we are partnering with regional organizations, such as American Cancer Society and Susan B. Komen, and providing them with spiritually comforting materials to support those they are serving.
Silent Unity - Silent Unity (800-NOW-PRAY) answers over 3,000 calls per day from people around the country needing prayer support, providing positive affirmative prayer that is confidential and at no charge, regardless of religious beliefs. In order to “pray with all who ask for prayer” we are testing remote based prayer partners who can answer the calls from their home or local church.
Communications and Social Media - Unity expanded its visibility significantly through social media, prayer and Daily Word apps, and a website redesign.
  • Both Daily Word and Silent Unity have “skills” on Amazon Alexa.
  • The free UPray app receives approximately 20,000 prayer requests per month. A Spanish edition of this app is in process.
  • Facebook and Facebook Live became key Unity communication channels. Each of our core programs and ministries has a Facebook page, and our CEO posts regularly on Facebook and Twitter.

2017-18 Goals:
  • After the initial Outreach pilot phase, we will review feedback, make adjustments, and do a nationwide launch to over 150 communities in June 2017.
  • Identify and focus on another group in need to receive our spiritually comforting materials.
  • Expand Silent Unity’s remote prayer partner program.
  • Partner with like-minded organizations to use our extensive building and ground space and create an earned income stream to support Unity’s core ministries.
  • Grow endowment funds to provide income for Silent Unity and campus renovations.
Needs Statement
In addition to funding to do the full launch of the Unity Outreach program and expand Silent Unity remote services, we have critical needs for campus renovations.
  • Each year, hundreds of visitors come to our 1,500 acre campus for retreats, tours, meals, golf, photographs, weddings, and other special meetings or events. Many of the buildings on campus, some built as long ago as 1929, are in serious need of renovation, including some of the original homes of the founding Fillmore family.
  • Another very critical need at this time is to repair the Fillmore Lake Dam. This 100-year old iconic dam houses and protects the Water Treatment Plant and Water Supply for Unity Village. Without repair, Unity will have to “borrow” water from Lee’s Summit, MO until we can become self-sustaining again.
  • Finally, Unity is focused on the environment and conserving natural resources. In 2006, Unity opened one of the first LEED-certified “green” hotels in the nation, and as our funding allows, we intend to install LED lighting on the entire campus, as well as protect our history and Archives by adding special premium air units for those items and materials.

Areas of Service
Unity World Headquarters is based in Jackson County, Missouri, however, our guiding principle is to help and serve as many people as we can throughout the country and the world.
CEO/Executive Director/Board Chair Statement
As Chair of the Board of Directors for Unity World Headquarters (UWH), I’m pleased and honored to provide a statement about Unity and my passion for their incredible work to help and serve more people across the country.
Shortly after I began attending a Unity Church, my world turned upside down. Unity provided a community for support, teachings to build a foundation, and a spiritual discipline that allowed to me to live a bigger dream. I believe in giving back, yes, through financial donations, but also by volunteering and service. I have served on several boards in my local community and on Unity boards in Kansas City for 18 years. I am always enriched far beyond the service I give. I believe I serve the world by serving Unity and my community.
Although UWH faces many of the same challenges as other not-for-profit organizations, we believe that by helping and serving more people and the overall greater good, we will inspire others to become financial partners in our vital work. For example, Unity recently created an Outreach program that will help and support people impacted by cancer on a global scale. Our initial pilot will put a packet of healing materials, including Never Alone: Facing Cancer with Faith, in the hands of over 1500 individuals in need of spiritual support. And in June, we will take the program nationwide. Not only will they have powerful healing messages to support them in a difficult time, but they will also be introduced to our core ministries: Silent Unity, our 24/7 prayer ministry that serves some 2 million people each year, and Daily Word, a daily positive spiritual reading.
Additionally, with new leadership in place, we’ve begun to identify potential like-mind partners who can help and serve their own populations using some of the 1500 acres and buildings we have available at Unity Village. This will not only expand our reach to help others, but will also create an earned income stream to help support Silent Unity and Daily Word.
Silent Unity is a worldwide prayer ministry in operation since 1907. Our trained prayer associates pray by telephone with callers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Including requests by mail, over the internet, and through our mobile U-Pray app, more than 3.7 million are served annually by our method of affirmative, empowering prayer inclusive of all faith traditions.

Short-Term Success Silent Unity’s approach to affirmative, empowering prayer is for those with whom we pray to experience immediate relief, comfort, and assurance, followed by a fresh sense of their capacity to navigate the changes and challenges of life confidently.
Long-Term Success
Silent Unity desires for everyone seeking prayer support to have immediate access to a well-trained, supportive, empowering person to pray with them. Silent Unity desires to have sufficient staff and technology to respond swiftly and directly to every request. Silent Unity desires that those with whom we pray build upon a consciousness of ever-present spiritual capacity within them to respond in every circumstance with spiritual maturity.
Program Success Monitored By Monthly reports calculate the number of calls and requests that Silent Unity receives for prayer support. These figures are included in our monthly management and financial reports to assist in planning for future growth. With the introduction of newer technology, we will also watch trends for growth and additional support necessary for our constituents.
Examples of Program Success “Marie of Oakland, CA called today to thank each and every one of us for answered prayers. She had been calling for over a year to ask for prayers for her granddaughter, who is a brilliant young lady, but no family members with the money to send her to college. Miraculously, someone has paid for five full years of college plus expenses for her granddaughter to get the education she desires. Marie is certain that prayer with Silent Unity is the direct line she needed to God for this answered prayer and she is so very grateful!”
The mission of Daily Word is to provide a voice of positivity to help transform and empower lives—meeting readers wherever they are on their spiritual journey. Through empowering affirmations and inspirational messages, readers are encouraged to focus on the presence and power of God within. In recognizing the divine light within, we effortlessly share positivity, inspiration, and joy.
What we think and how we think is responsible for our outlook on life and determines our health, happiness, and continued spiritual growth. It is not enough to be told that we need to think correctly in order to meet life successfully. We need to know how to think positively, how to change our patterns of thought in order to tap into the creative power within—the birthright of every human being.

Examples of Program Success
“I entered college as World War II began…. Unity and Daily Word, part of my life since the 1930s, proved to be positive guides during my time in the service. Daily Word [gave] me guidance, confidence, and peace.”—Bill
“When my family was in crisis many years ago, I knew I needed two things if we were to heal. One was to find a church; the other was to get counseling. I was very fortunate in finding Unity of Everett, Washington, and a wonderful counselor. Since that time, Daily Word has been a constant part of my life. The daily writings often, amazingly, speak to my specific situation.”—Lisa, Washington
“It is amazing how one little booklet can change the course of a person’s life completely and wonderfully. It had a “ripple” effect, going from my auntie, to my mom, to me, and then I passed it on to my kids. Now, positive thoughts and Daily Word are as natural to me as breathing. I do not see how people can function without it.”—Darla, Wisconsin
Unity has established a nationwide Outreach program whose sole purpose it to deliver materials of spiritual support to cancer centers, addiction centers, abuse homes, shelters and various nonprofits. Through this vital program, people who are experiencing a life-changing journey will also be introduced to Daily Word, our Silent Unity Prayer Ministry and local Unity spiritual communities. Our current focus is directed specifically towards cancer centers, hospitals and nonprofits serving people impacted by cancer.
Category Religion, General/Other Christianity
Population Served General/Unspecified, ,
Short-Term Success The outreach pilot launched on March 4, 2017 with the distribution of 1,500 packets to 18 spiritual communities throughout the United States. Each spiritual community is distributing the packets to six to ten cancer centers, hospitals and nonprofits in their area. A much wider roll-out is planned for June 2017 with a goal of 100 spiritual communities distributing 7,500 packets to as many individuals impacted by cancer as possible.
Long-Term Success
The ultimate goal of our Outreach program is to deliver hope, inspiration and a helping hand to those who most need it by supporting chaplains, ministers, social workers – and in turn those marginalized by society, in pain or experiencing health challenges. By being proactive with our message and our ministries the potential for this outreach to help others is unlimited.
Program Success Monitored By Program success will be monitored by an Outreach pilot feedback form created specifically for the purpose of collecting data and information regarding the program. Each spiritual community has been tasked with gathering feedback, data and suggestions for future support needs.
Examples of Program Success

  • “I was so grateful to be able to share the Never Alone cancer booklet with a coworker, to offer these words of wisdom and comfort that I didn’t know how to say myself.”
