Background Statement
The Kyrie Foundation was founded in 2007 by Chad Eickholt and Megan Thome to raise awareness of pediatric brain cancers, and raise funds for research to find cures. The foundation was started in response to the lack of awareness, information, and resources available for children and families facing pediatric brain cancer that the Eickholts encountered when Megan’s niece, Kyrie Thome, was diagnosed and ultimately succumbed to pediatric brain cancer in 2007 before her second birthday.
Since its founding, the Kyrie Foundation has held numerous fundraising events in Wichita and Kansas City, and made six donations to date, totaling $300,000 to the national Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation for The Kyrie Foundation Tissue Bank Fund. The fund specifically allows vital tissue samples to be retrieved from brain surgeries and safely and effectively transported and procured for scientific research studies.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Chair Statement
The Kyrie Foundation’s greatest success is in the delivery of six research grants (and counting), totaling $300,000. These critical funds create the ability to effectively deliver brain tumor samples to the scientific community and further the opportunity to find a cure. Our biggest challenge has been existing as a small organization (board consisting of family/friends) and the obstacles encountered with trying to obtain support from sponsors and donors.
