Mission Statement
Accelerated Schools of Overland Park works with students and their families to provide a unique learning environment that maximizes individual success.
Background Statement Accelerated Schools of Overland Park is a private, non-profit school, accredited by AdvancED and the State of Kansas. Educational services have been provided in the greater Kansas City area for over 40 years under the ownership and direction of Carl Peterson and Roxanna White. In 2005, longtime Accelerated Schools teacher and administrator, Jane Curran, acquired the Overland Park school. She is committed to continuing the long tradition of providing an educational program dedicated to excellence. In the past few years our student population has grown, and we purchased the building attached to our original building to better meet the needs of our students.
Impact Statement
Accomplishments: 
  1. We successfully passed our Accreditation!
  2. Started our second year with two buildings.  High school and middle school are now housed in separate buildings.  The middle school building was updated this past summer to better the learning environment, adding a pod area for lunch and group meetings.
  3. We modified our daily schedule adding a seminar period Monday through Thursday for students to meet with a teacher dedicated to following the student's progress through the year, and to encourage community in the school.
  4. We added outdoor lighting to enhance our security and safety.
  5. We continue to upgrade our technology equipment and programs.
  6. We expanded our board of directors to be more inclusive.
 
Goals: 
  1. Continue to update security at the school.
  2. Continue to update technology to meet the growing needs of our students.
Needs Statement
Each year Accelerated Schools must meet the challenge of generating the financial funds necessary to operate, to improve, and to build a secure future for our school. Our major need right now is to obtain the financial support to pay for the upgrades in our buildings and to retire our debt incurred in the purchase and remodeling of the building we purchased in the Spring 2016.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Chair Statement It has been a privilege to work with Accelerated Schools of Overland Park and I look forward to helping in the work of the school into the future. Each board member brings his or her unique talent to the table and we are all passionate about the mission of Accelerated Schools. Parents continue to partner with us in providing an appropriate education for their children - a tangible sign of our success. The main challenge will be to continue to generate the revenue required to maintain and to improve the quality program we offer.
Programs
Description As a private school, without the restrictions and pressures most public schools face, we are able to discard ineffective methods and adopt materials and procedures that efficiently solve educational problems. We apply predictable solutions to problems through custom-tailored instruction and ongoing evaluation. Our full day curriculum covers the core subject areas as well as elective courses. All programs are custom designed to meet each student's unique learning objectives and academic needs. Developing strong study skills is an important component of our program. We teach students how to be more active and effective listeners, take meaningful notes, communicate both orally and in written form, study for tests and manage their time throughout the process. In addition, Accelerated Schools helps students develop better social skills by guiding them through more positive interactions with other students and teachers.

Short-Term Success By working with the students on an individualized basis, we provide them the help they need immediately to help them be successful on a daily basis.
Long-Term Success Our long term success is determined by our ability to ensure that the students who leave our school are academically prepared, independently responsible, personally motivated, and highly self-confident. That they are good citizens in our community.
Program Success Monitored By Accelerated Schools has repeatedly demonstrated that the majority of students can achieve a full grade level gain in a subject in an average of 40 hours of individualized instruction. These dramatic gains are achieved through an educational program developed over many years of research, testing, and experience. Here are some of the key elements of this proven approach: Standardized testing (Beginning and ending) Intensive individualized instruction Structured classroom Low student - teacher ratio Strict accountability for work completion Immediate feedback on performance Daily report card Realistic homework expectations Effective reward management system Computers as a classroom tool Parent support All of these components are essential elements for ensuring that our program is on course to being successful.
Examples of Program Success Accelerated Schools has been in operation for many years. Our enrollment continues to grow. Most of our students come to us from direct referrals from the students, their parents, other schools, area psychologist, psychiatrist, and other professionals who work with adolescents. This is proof that our school is being successful. Further evidence of the school's success in the qualitative surveys of parents of present and former students who report great satisfaction with the educational program of Accelerated Schools.
Description Accelerated Schools offers individualized tutoring instruction in reading comprehension, vocabulary development, math, English grammar and composition, study skills, Accelerated Thinking 5-5-5 study procedure and supervised homework for students in grades 1 - 12. High school credit is available.

Short-Term Success By working with the students on an individualized basis, they will immediately receive the help they need to be successful on a daily basis.
Long-Term Success Students will improve their overall academic skills in the areas in which they are receiving tutoring instruction. The students will transfer these improved skills to their coursework at their homebased school. They will demonstrate a more positive attitude, become more motivated, and display more self-confidence.
Program Success Monitored By Accelerated Schools administers standardized testing at the beginning of their tutoring program to determine the student's strengths and weaknesses. An individualized program is then written for each student. Teachers are trained to recognize problems and create a plan of action to overcome these problems. Each day the teacher evaluates the student's progress and makes whatever modifications are necessary to ensure that the student is able to be successful.
Examples of Program Success Accelerated Schools has offered this tutoring program for many years and has served hundreds of students. We have a positive relationship with many schools, other professionals, and parents who refer students to our program.
Description Summer school programs are available for students entering grades 2 -12.

Short-Term Success High School students will test better in the subjects that they take over the summer months and receive high school credit for their course work.  Elementary and middle school students will test better during the next school year.
Long-Term Success To provide high school credit classes during the summer months to enhance a students curricular or to make up credits that a student needs for graduation requirements.  To offer summer camp programs that provides creative activity as well as individualized tutoring.  To offer hourly individualized tutoring as requested.  Long term goals is to help students be successful in school.
Program Success Monitored By Lisensed teachers provide the education and the testing.
Examples of Program Success Students grades will be improved.
CEO Comments Accelerated Schools of Overland Park offers a full-time school for students in grades 4–12 and part-time tutoring instruction for grades 2–12. All programs are available 12 months of the year, and students may start any day of the year. Graduation requirements are aligned with the State of Kansas for earning a high school diploma.

Organization Comments We offer a school environment that helps children who are unable to learn in the traditional school setting.  For this reason we have a low teacher/student ratio of 1/7.  The ability to upgrade technology, improve the facility, provide excellent teachers falls almost entirely on tuition.  Through grants and donations, we try to keep tuition as low as possible while making important improvement.
